Made By Me | 70’s Inspired Denim Skirt & a Trip to Stockholm

This month I was lucky enough to head on a spring city break to beautiful Stockholm in Sweden with Tom. It was such a pretty city with so much to do, we had heard it was an expensive city but with a bit of searching around we were able to spend money wisely once we got there and not blow our budget.

Before we jetted off I made a little something to wear once out there. I decided to make this high waisted denim skirt with statement buttons down the front.

The 70’s trend is big this season and I love that these classic but comfy skirts are coming back into fashion this spring. There are loads of styles on the highstreet, I especially like the more vintage looking ones from ASOS & Topshop.

I styled my skirt with a simple black crop top and my favorite leopard print boots for a cool retro day look.

Read on the see how I made it…

I bought a scrap of old denim fabric from Abakhan in Manchester which was being sold by the kg. I got around 2 meters for £6.90 which I thought was really reasonable. I then followed the Delphine Skirt pattern in Tilly Walnes book – Love at First Stitch.
(Ps. I have written a blog post all about the best books to learn to sew feat. Tilly’s book, read it here)

The zip at the back was the trickiest stage but with a little luck I inserted it with only a few attempts and think it looks alright! My favourite part of the skirt has got to be the beautiful gold buttons on the front. They are from a bead shop in Aflecks Palace in Manchester, nearby to Abakhan actually!

I hope you like this skirt as much as I do wearing this it!
I am working on editing some more images of Stockholm City and a little guide to doing it cheaply for a future post, so follow me on Twitter & Instagram for updates.
