you have been inspired by the Great British Sewing Bee to dust off your sewing
machine and get dressmaking this month but are struggling find time to get to a
fabric shop, then here’s my tips for finding unique and beautiful fabrics
Grace & Favour
& Favour are a local craft shop near me that also run affordable and fun
workshops in their shop in Lancashire. They also have a great selection of
their quirky dressmaking and craft fabrics to shop online. If you are looking
for pretty or girly dress making fabrics that are both fashionable and vintage,
Grace & Favour is your go-to. If you don’t know exactly what you are
looking for you can search by use, fabric or pattern, which is really handy if
you are indecisive or just fancy a browse like I often do. The beautiful quaint
shop is definitely worth a visit if you are around the Lancashire area, and I
hear the workshops are amazing for learning a new skill or extending your
visually inspiring website sells a wide selection of dress making, craft and
interior fabrics. Their shop is based in London and the website acts as an
beautiful extension of their modern and eclectic store. You can find prints
from designers such as Liberty, Charlie Harper and Birch on RayStitch. I love
Sarah Watts prints, they are truly unique but still wearable and would make a
great festival inspired crop top.
Fabric Godmother focuses mainly on dressmaking
fabrics and is one of my favourite places to find vintage and floral fabrics.
The website is simple and easy to find what you are looking for. The fabric
prices are in meters on the website so at first glance appear a little more
expensive but are actually really great value compared to other sites. You can
order a minimum of 20cm too which is great for smaller projects like headbands
or knickers. Fabric Godmother also sell haberdashery bits, modern patterns and
kits to make your own accessories.
rehab has a wide of choice of prints, plains and textures for dressmaking and
the site is so easy to understand and navigate. There are some gorgeous gingham
cottons that I have my eye on to make into cute matching co-ords or floaty
dresses for summer.
have a few stores in the north and are treasure troves for finding fabrics
cheaply. I thought I would include this recommendation as they also have an
online store that is equally as good. Abakhan online has plenty of choice and
selection of a variety of fabrics anything from denim to jersey. It is limited
when it comes to unique designer prints so head here if you want cheap plains
The Little Fabric Bazaar
Little Fabric Bazaar I found this site via twitter and loved the bright,
fun-loving prints they offered. The site is best suited for those looking for
colourful fabrics for children’s wear or crafts. You can order in fat quarters
for quilting or meters for outfits, all fabrics are quirky and reasonably
are so many places out there selling gorgeous fabrics for dressmaking, these are
just a handful of my favourite, I would love to hear your recommendations so
please get in touch if you have any.
hope this post has inspired you to get shopping and create something beautiful!
